Flint Township man charged in wrong-way crash that killed 2

FLINT TWP., MI – Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton has authorized charges against a 43-year-old Flint Township man who authorities say caused a Saturday evening crash that left two people dead.

The man, whom MLive-The Flint Journal is not naming as he’s not yet been arraigned, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of operating while intoxicated causing death, two counts of operating with a revoked license causing death, and single counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury and operating with a revoked license causing serious injury.

Lauren Shoens of Flushing and Richard Pepitone of Mundy Township died and one person was critically injured when their vehicle was hit by a vehicle driven by Fields, police previously said.

Police responded to a report of a head-on crash at 10:35 p.m. Saturday, May 27, along a portion of I-75.

Police said Fields was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-75 near Beecher Road when he collided, head-on, with a Sedan traveling north on I-75.

The driver of the Sedan, a 27-year-old Flushing resident, is listed in critical condition.

Shoens and Pepitone were pronounced dead at the scene.
