LIVE: M6 closed due to serious crash between junctions 16 and 17

The M6 is closed around south Cheshire due to a 'serious collision' involving a truck. Emergency services have this morning been called out to the southbound carriageway between junctions 17 and 16.
National Highways has confirmed that the southbound stretch has been shut off. Meanwhile North West Motorway Police, who have been dealing with the incident, had allowed some traffic to pass the scene on lane four - but have now put in place a full closure, StokeonTrentLive reports[1].
In addition Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service[2] and North West Ambulance Service have been called to the scene with a diversion now in place.
A spokesperson for National Highways, who had tweeted out to confirm it was a 'serious collision', said: "The M6 in Cheshire is closed southbound between J17 Sandbach Interchange (Congleton, Sandbach A534) and J16 Barthomley Interchange (Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stoke-on-Trent (N), Crewe[3], Nantwich A500).
"This is due to a collision involving a lorry. North West Motorway Police, North West Ambulance Service, Cheshire Fire and Rescue and National Highways have units on scene."
