Lying husband and A55 attacker among six jailed for drink or drug crimes in North Wales
A deceitful shoplifter, a driver brought to a halt by a police 'stinger' device and a man found with a stash of thousands of Ecstasy tablets were among the offenders jailed for crimes recently. All the offences which led to the individuals listed below hit with prison terms involved either drink or drugs.
In total, six individuals make up our latest rogue's gallery. Their crimes covered assault, motoring and other offences.
Here we revisit some of the crimes in which alcohol or other illicit substances played a part in the defendants' actions. Judges in North Wales considered their cases so serious, they were worthy of a prison sentence.
All those featured on the list are now starting jail terms for their crimes. Some will be subject to other punishment - such as driving bans - upon their release.
Marcin Stawecki

A drunk dad claimed he didn't know what would happen when he told the cops his wife had attacked him with a knife. Marcin Stawecki, of Cunningham Avenue in Wrexham[2], appeared at Mold Crown Court[3] after admitting attempting to pervert the course of public justice.
Prosecutor Emmalyne Downing told the court that Stawecki called the police in the early hours of Christmas[4] Day.
He claimed to the call handler that his wife had "slashed" him to the chest with a knife whilst the 39-year-old was sleeping. She spent Christmas Day in a police cell due to his "wicked lie".[5]
Richard Williams
Richard Williams, 54, of Powell Road, Buckley, Flintshire, was jailed for two-and-a-half years for possession with intent to supply MDMA, also known as Ecstasy. (Image: North Wales Police)
Police helping a woman move out of a property found a hoard of £70,000 worth of drugs inside. Richard Williams had been storing thousands of ecstasy pills and cannabis at the property on Cefn Capel, Llanfairpwll, Anglesey[6].
Williams, of Powell Road, Buckley[7], pleaded guilty to possession of the ecstasy - or MDMA - and also of possession of cannabis skunk and cannabis resin[8], all with intent to supply.
It was the defendant's first drugs offence at the age of 54 but a judge told him he had to send him to jail for two-and-a-half years.
Paul Williams

A shoplifter on a crime spree used an accomplice who pretended to have heart attacks to distract staff. When Paul Williams, 30, was caught, he assaulted three off-duty police officers.
He admitted a string of offences and a judge at Caernarfon[9] Crown Court jailed him for a total of 14 months. One accomplice has already been prosecuted.
Richard Edwards, defending, said his client had been abusing alcohol and heroin at the time of the offences.[10]
Daniel Lewis

A man with paranoid schizophrenia attacked a woman's pensioner husband as he was being driven along the A55[11]. Daniel Lewis, 29, who was once rescued from the English Channel by a passing ship, rained punches down on the 75-year-old.
The pensioner pulled the handbrake of the car in a panic and fled the vehicle only for Lewis to continue to punch and kick him on the expressway.[12]
Lewis had befriended the victim's wife when they were both inpatients at the Heddfan psychiatric unit at Wrexham[13] Maelor Hospital. Prosecutor Richard Edwards said Lewis and the woman had a sexual relationship - but it wasn't known if the victim knew about it and he had treated Lewis as a friend, Caernarfon[14] Crown Court heard today.
Wayne Parry

A road rage drug driver accused of attacking another motorist after being annoyed by his driving had “dual standards,” a judge said.
Wayne Parry, 36, unemployed, of Llwyn Onn, Rhos[15] on Sea, was jailed for six months and banned for 45 months at Llandudno[16] magistrates court.
Prosecutor Alys Haf said Parry had tailgated his victim who’d left the A55[17] at Penmaenmawr and then punched him when he stopped his car[18]. The victim’s daughter had been crying.
Paula Clutton

A woman almost three times over the drink drive limit led police on a high-speed chase and had to be stopped with a Stinger. Paula Clutton had been extremely lucky not to kill anyone on her journey from Caernarfon to Bangor[19], a court heard.
The 40-year-old had gone the wrong way around a roundabout and caused oncoming drivers to swerve out of her way.[20][21]
Clutton, of Pentraeth, Anglesey admitted dangerous driving and a string of other motoring offences, and a judge at Caernarfon[22] Crown Court[23] jailed her for 12 months.
