Man, 20, killed in M65 collision that closed motorway for four hours
A 20-year-old man has died after being hit by car on the M65[1].
The man was struck by a Dacia Sandero on the westbound carriage of the motorway at around 1.20am on Monday. The crash happened between junctions 9 and 10 in Burnley[2].
The man was taken to hospital with serious head and leg injuries but died on Tuesday afternoon. Lancashire[3] Police has asked for anyone with dashcam footage or who saw the crash to come forward. The motorway was subsequently closed for four hours.
A police spokesperson said: “A man has died after being involved in a road traffic collision on the M65 at Burnley. Lancashire Police were called at 1.20am on Monday (May 22), to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a Dacia Sandero car in the westbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions nine and 10.
“The pedestrian, a 20-year-old man from Burnley, suffered serious head and leg injuries and was taken to hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced deceased yesterday afternoon (May 23). Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad and difficult time. A file will be passed to HM Coroner in due course.
