23-year-old Killed in Three-Vehicle Car Crash in Somerset

SOMERSET, NJ – Authorities in Somerset County are investigating a three-car motor vehicle crash that left a 23-year-old dead in Franklin Township on Monday.

On Monday at around 5:30 p.m. Franklin Township Police responded to the scene of a car crash at the intersection of Hamilton Street and Hillcrest Avenue in Somerset.

Upon arrival at the scene, first responders preformed life saving measures on Mario Heslop of New Brunswick, who was driving a 2013 Infiniti Q50S at the time of the three-vehicle crash.

The 23-year-old was transported to a local trauma hospital and later pronounced dead, according to officials.

A preliminary investigation found that Heslop was driving eastbound in the left lane when he crossed the centerline and struck the second vehicle who was traveling westbound in the left lane of Hamilton Street, Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald reported.

The second car, which was being operated by a Hillsborough resident, was then struck from the rear by the third car involved in the crash, who was also traveling westbound in the left lane of Hamilton Street, the prosecutor’s office said.

The Hillsborough resident involved in the crash sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

The third driver involved claimed that they weren’t injured and refused medical attention at the scene, authorities said.

The circumstances and events leading to the fatal car crash are still under investigation, authorities said.

Officials are requesting anyone with information relating to the crash contact to the Somerset County Prosecutors Office Major Crimes Unit at (908) 231-7100 or the Franklin Township Police Department at (732) 873-5533 or via the STOPit app.
