31-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dies in A1 Accident

The Grand Ducal Police have reported that a 31-year-old motorcyclist has died following an accident on the A1 motorway in the early hours of Sunday morning, 18 June 2023.

According to the police, the accident happened shortly before 00:25 when two motorcyclists were driving along the A1 motorway, coming from Germany in the direction of Luxembourg. At the Flaxweiler exit, the motorcyclist in front started to overtake a truck but, according to initial findings, he crashed into a car ahead. In the accident, the motorcyclist was thrown onto the opposite lane, the A1 in the direction of Germany, where he was hit by a car and shortly afterwards, probably also by a truck, and was seriously injured. 

The rescue services arrived at the scene of the accident to find the body of the motorcyclist on the road. The motorway was closed in both directions for the duration of the rescue operation and the salvage work, and diversions were set up. The public prosecutor’s office ordered a forensics team to examine the crash site to determine the exact circumstances, during which time the A1 motorway remains closed in both directions.

The police have appealed for witnesses to the accident, in particular for a truck driver who was traveling in the direction of Germany and who, according to the police, presumably also his the motorcyclist involved in the accident. Anyone with information is urged to call the police on tel: 113.
