Christopher Remillard, accused of killing child in crash, pleads not guilty

A Leicester man accused of killing a 5-year-old[1] when police say he hit her and her mother with his car as they crossed the street appeared in Worcester County Superior Court Monday.

Christopher Remillard, 57, faces one count each of manslaughter, motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon involving serious bodily injury and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges Monday, according to court records.

Remillard, who has a history of motor vehicle violations[3], told police he was reaching for money in his pocket[4] at the time of the April 18, 2022 wreck that killed Candice Asare-Yeboah and injured her mother.

The two were crossing at a crosswalk on Stafford Street. The crash brought renewed calls to improve safety[5] on Worcester roads.

Remillard is currently free on a $10,000 bail, with conditions that he not drive and have no contact with any witnesses or victims.

He is next due in court on July 26, for his attorneys to enter an appearance or, if he doesn’t yet have an attorney, to be appointed one by the court.
