Cyclist was seriously hurt in A44 crash with Ford Transit

Damian Bilyard appeared before magistrates in Hereford for sentencing in June after entering guilty pleas to one count of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving and one count of failing to stop after a road traffic accident at an earlier hearing.

The court heard from prosecutor Mark Hambling that Bilyard had crashed with a cyclist, causing them serious injuries, while behind the wheel of a Ford Transit van on the A44 in Bromyard on September 28 last year.

The 37-year-old, who was represented by defence solicitor Ian Bridge at the hearing, had then failed to stop at the scene, despite the serious injuries caused to the cyclist, the court heard.

Bilyard, of Firs Lane, Bromyard, was handed a 12-month community order, fined £120, and disqualified from driving for 12 months for the offences, with magistrates saying they had taken his guilty pleas into account when deciding on the penalty.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £135 and a £114 victim surcharge.
