Dramatic picture shows emergency services rush to help biker fighting for life in A494 van crash

This was the scene on the A494 as emergency services rushed to the aid of a biker who is now fighting for his life.[1] The motorcyclist received serious injuries when he collided with a van near Llanuwchllyn in Gwynedd[2] on Saturday afternoon.

North Wales Police[3] shut the road between Bala[4] and Dolgellau in the wake of the incident and warned the route would be closed for some time. The photo shows police and vehicle recovery crew on the A494 while an air ambulance tasked to attend the scene flies overhead.

North Wales Police confirmed that the man riding a German-registered white BMW GS motorbike was travelling as part of a group when his vehicle collided with a Silver Mercedes Vito van during the incident. He was whisked to Stoke with "life-threatening injuries"[5] in the immediate aftermath of the crash.

In a statement, Sergeant Jason Diamond of the Roads Policing Unit earlier said: "I am appealing to anyone who may have been travelling along the A494 between Dolgellau[7] and Bala who witnessed the collision to contact police. The motorbike rider was travelling as part of a group of ten foreign registered motorbikes travelling along the A494 from Dolgellau to Bala.

"I would urge anyone who saw or may have dashcam footage of either vehicle or the group of motorbikes travelling along the road prior to the collision to contact us." Anyone with information should contact North Wales Police via their website[8] or by calling 101, quoting reference A084436.
