‘Enquiries continuing’ after bus Pershore Road crash left man critical and five others hurt
West Midlands Police has issued a fresh statement after six people including a child were injured following a collision involving a car and a bus. The single-decker crashed with a vehicle near the Pebble Mill Road junction of Pershore Road in Edgbaston[1] just after 1.05pm on Wednesday (May 31).
Emergency services raced to the scene with paramedics providing life-support to the driver of the car. He was later taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a critical condition.
Two male bus passengers were treated for potentially serious injuries before being transferred to the same hospital. A female passenger also required further treatment while a youngster was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital with minor injuries.
The last casualty, a woman from the car, was assessed at the scene and discharged. Now, West Midlands Police has provided an update.
BirminghamLive asked if the force has launched an investigation and whether it was able to provide an update on the condition of the driver. A spokesperson replied: “Enquiries are continuing but we’ve no further updates at this stage.”

Officers previously said: “We are currently at the scene of a collision. We were called at around 1pm to a report of a bus in collision with a car on Pershore Road in Edgbaston. Emergency services are currently in attendance and the road near to Edgbaston Cricket Club has been closed.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman[3] added: “On arrival crews discovered the driver of the car, a man, was in a critical condition. Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life-support before conveying him on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for continued treatment.
“Two male passengers of the bus were treated by ambulance staff for potentially serious injuries and taken to the same hospital for further treatment. A female passenger was treated by medics for injuries not believed to be serious and taken to Birmingham Women’s Hospital for further treatment.
“A child from onboard the bus was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital with minor injuries. A sixth patient, who was the female passenger of the car, was assessed by ambulance staff but did not require hospital treatment. She was given self-care advice before being discharged at the scene.”
