A former Brink’s employee was recently charged with stealing over $640,000 while she worked for the company. Since her arrest, she’s allegedly admitted to the theft and returned $30,200.

The Brink’s Inc. employee has been identified as Makayla Small, a resident of Memphis, Tennessee. Police arrested Small on June 5, 2023 and charged her with theft of property $250,000 or more.

During her court hearing on Wednesday (June 7), Small had her bond reduced from $250,000 to $105,000, and she continues to sit in the Shelby County Jail. According to an affidavit in Small’s case, a security manager at Brink’s Inc. filed a report with Memphis Police on September 6, 2022. Then in October 2022, the manager gave a statement and provided evidence of the thefts. She also identified Small in a lineup of six suspects.

In the Brink’s manager’s complaint, it was reported that there was a theft at the business in the 3700 block of Old Getwell Rd. The manager also told investigators that they were looking into deposit shortages, and found that Small, who worked as a cash processor, was seen on surveillance footage taking money as she counted deposits from June 2022 through August 2022.

Within the two months, Small was accused of stealing $640, 211. The Brink’s manager also said that she and another employee took their information to Small and confronted her about her actions. During the confrontation, Small reportedly admitted to them about the thefts and ended up returning $30,2000 to Brink’s on August 31, 2022. Subsequently, the company lost $610,011 between all the thefts.
