Glasgow M8 driver doing 100mph caused horrific motorway crash

A man injured his girlfriend’s spine after crashing his car into a barrier.

Brandon Nobre initially collided with another car causing both to spin out of control on Glasgow’s M8. The 23-year-old had been travelling up to 100 miles per hour and overtook two cars before the horror smash.

His passengers – partner Piper O’Neill and friend Thomas Begbie – suffered injuries as a result. The driver of the other car Nicolas Pelc sustained a bruised Tibia.

Nobre escaped meantime with minor bruising. He pled guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to causing serious injury to Miss O’Neill by dangerous driving.

The court heard that Nobre was behind the wheel of a blue Volkswagen on the motorway near Townhead.

Nobre overtook the first vehicle whose driver believed that he was going up to 100 miles per hour in the 40 zone.

A taxi driver who was also overtaken at speed claimed he got a “fright.”

Nobre went on to undertake a third vehicle at speed.

Mr Pelc meantime was driving a Ford Transit van as Nobre attempted to change lanes.

Prosecutor Sean Docherty said: “He collided with the rear offside of the van causing both vehicles to spin into the central Armco barrier causing extensive damage to both vehicles.”

Mr Begbie and Miss O’Neill emerged from the car while Nobre was found inside appearing “stunned.”

He later told witnesses that he believed he was travelling at 80 miles per hour.

Mr Palc meantime was cut out of his van by medics while suffering from tibia and back pain.

Mr Begbie and Miss O’Neill were also taken to hospital.

Mr Docherty said: “It was noted that Miss O’Neill sustained a fracture of her vertebrae within her spin.

“The estimated recovery time is one year.

“Mr Palc suffered a bruised tibia while Mr Begbie and Nobre suffered minor bruising.”

Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Gerard Considine.

Nobre, of Durham, was disqualified from driving in the interim period.
