Following the crash, West Midlands Police[5] arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and being unfit through drugs. He remained in custody today, June 9, as cops appealed for witnesses. The 12-year-old's family is being supported by specially trained officers.

In response to the crash, Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at West Midlands Police, said: "We are appealing for witnesses and in particular for people with dash cam footage to please contact us. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy and we are doing all we can to support them at this very difficult time."
