Huge M5 delays as air ambulance called to major crash that closes motorway in both directions

A major crash on the M5 north of Gloucestershire has seen a huge emergency service presence and the deployment of the air ambulance. The collision between a car and a van happened in Worcestershire at around 10.57am and huge delays of 75 minutes remain.

The northbound carriageway was swiftly closed[1] with police, ambulance and fire services at the scene. The air ambulance landed and all traffic southbound also held for a while but both carriageways have since reopened.

The collision between a van and a car happened between junction 7 for Evesham and junction 6 for Worcester. Local diversions were in place and huge queues are forming.

Northbound: Severe delays, queueing traffic for nine miles and two lanes closed due to accident, a car and a van involved on M5 Northbound between J7 A44 (Worcester / Evesham) and J6 A4538 Pershore Lane (Worcester). Congestion to J8 (M50 Interchange). Travel time is 1 hour 15 minutes

Southbound: Queueing traffic for three miles due to an accident on the other side on M5 Southbound between J6 A4538 Pershore Lane (Worcester) and J7 A44 (Worcester / Evesham). All lanes have been re-opened. Travel time is 25 minutes.
