A lorry crash in Buckinghamshire has led to long delays as part of a motorway had to be closed due to the incident. The collision took place at around 5.41pm on Sunday, June 11 but affected traffic overnight and into Monday morning (June 12).

The collision occurred on the M1 Southbound[1] between Milton Keynes[2] and Northampton. Motorists have been warned to plan ahead as the closure seems likely to last into the afternoon.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “The M1 southbound is closed between Junction 15 Collingtree Interchange (Northampton (E) A45) and Junction 14 Broughton Interchange (Milton Keynes, Newport Pagnell[3] A509) for emergency roadworks following an earlier collision. A tanker lorry struck the nearside barrier and central reservation barrier earlier resulting in significant damage to both.

“There is also road surface damage due to a spillage of diesel and oil from the lorry. As such the barriers on both sides of the carriageway[4] need repairing and road needs to be resurfaced.

“Due to the extent of repairs required at scene, the closure is expected to remain in place throughout the day. There are currently five miles of congestion on approach to the closure causing 60-minute delays above normal travel time.

“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
