M25 traffic live: Vehicles bumper-to-bumper for miles after crash near Reigate
All lanes on the M25 in Surrey have reopened after a two-van crash was reported near Reigate[1]. Traffic built for around 13 miles and at one point stretched to the Clacket Lane services.
The accident happened in the clockwise direction close to Junction 8 and was first reported shortly before 7.40am. A temporary hold was put in place but was later reduced to a one-lane closure.
National Highways reported: “One lane (of four) is closed on the M25 clockwise between J8 Reigate and J9 Leatherhead due to a collision.” An update around 9am then confirmed: “All lanes are now open.”
Travel service Inrix first said: “Queueing traffic for four miles and one lane closed due to accident, two vans involved on M25 clockwise after J8 A217 Brighton Road (Reigate). Congestion to J7 M23. In lane four (of four) a mile after J8, after a short hold.”
A later statement from Inrix said: “Long delays and queueing traffic for 13 miles due to accident, now on the hard shoulder on M25 clockwise after J8 A217 Brighton Road (Reigate). Congestion to Clacket Lane Services on the Kent Surrey border, back past J6 Godstone. Travel time is 35 minutes.”
