M5 crash: Person in hospital after 4×4 towing caravan overturns in Somerset
A person has been rushed to hospital following a crash on the M5 in Somerset[1] this morning (June 1). According to Avon and Somerset Police[2], a 4×4 towing a caravan overturned on the southbound carriageway at around 6.40am.
The motorway was closed between junction 24 for Bridgwater[3] and junction 25 for Taunton[4] following the crash. It remains closed as the vehicles are recovered.
There is now congestion heading southbound near Taunton. Traffic monitoring site Inrix is reporting delays of around 50 minutes.
Avon and Somerset Police said: “The southbound M5 is closed between junction 24 (Bridgwater) and 25 (Taunton) after a 4×4 towing a caravan overturned.
“It happened at about 6.40am today, Thursday 1 June. Police and ambulance crews attended and one person has gone to hospital.
“The road remains closed pending recovery of the vehicles.”
The latest log from Inrix says: “Long delays and two lanes closed due to recovery work and earlier accident on M5 Southbound from J24 A38 Taunton Road (Bridgwater South) to J25 A358 (Taunton). Travel time is around 50 minutes.
“Sensors show that traffic was released at around 07:10 but lanes two and three (of three) remain closed whilst they recover the overturned caravan.”
