M5 fully reopens after crash near Worcester but there are big 90-minute traffic delays

Driver rushed to major trauma centre after M5 crash

A driver has been rushed to a major trauma centre after suffering ‘significant injuries’ in a crash on the M5 involvimng a van and a car. The collision took place between Junction 7 and 6 on the northbound carriageway of the motorway, shortly before 11am on Wednesday (June 14).

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene. West Mercia Police has now confirmed the car driver suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. While the van driver was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “Police were called to a collision on the M5 northbound between Junction 6 and 7 at 10:35am this morning (Wednesday, June 14) involving a car and a van. Police and fire are still at the scene. Air ambulance attended.

“The driver of the car sustained significant injuries and has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The van driver has suspected leg injuries and has also been taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.”

The M5 southbound has reopened across all lanes and there is one lane open on northbound between Junction 6 and 7. Two lanes northbound will remain closed for the next few hours to allow for the vehicles to be recovered.
