M62 closed between Huddersfield and Manchester after vehicle crashes and overturns – latest updates

The M62 has reopened this morning (Friday, June 16) between Huddersfield and Manchester after a vehicle crashed and overturned.

Roads and traffic monitoring service Inrix first reported the incident at 2.49am. It said that the motorway was closed westbound “due to overturned lorry”.

However, National Highways reported that there had been “a collision which has resulted in a car overturning and coming to rest on its roof”.

In an update at 3.33an Inrix said: “M62 Westbound closed due to overturned lorry between J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield) and J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor).”

Meanwhile, National Highways reports: “The M62 in West Yorkshire is closed westbound (towards Manchester) between J24 Ainley Top Interchange (Huddersfield, Halifax A629) and J22 Rockingstone Interchange (Saddleworth A672).

“This is following a collision which has resulted in a car overturning and coming to rest on its roof. West Yorkshire Police are on scene.”

A diversion is in place. However, National Highways say: “There is a low-bridge of 16’3 (4.95m) on the A58 at Sowerby Bridge. There is no official diversion route for vehicles over this height.

“Drivers of vehicles over this height please plan ahead and use an alternative route.”
