Man airlifted to hospital ‘fighting for life’ after A494 van crash
A biker has been flown to hospital after crashing with a van in Gwynedd[1]. North Wales Police[2] responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash on the A494 near Llanuwchllyn, in Bala[3], this afternoon (June 3), warning motorists that the route would be closed for “some time” while emergency services worked at the scene.
Officers have now confirmed that the man riding a German-registered white BMW GS motorbike collided with a Silver Mercedes Vito van during the incident. He has since been airlifted to a hospital in Stoke with “life-threatening injuries”.
Police have now launched an appeal as part of their investigation. The A494 between Bala and Dolgellau – specifically close to Llanuwchllyn – was forced to shut shortly after cops responded to the emergency. As of 4.40pm, the route has yet to reopen.
Sergeant Jason Diamond, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have been travelling along the A494 between Dolgellau[5] and Bala, who witnessed the collision to contact police. The motorbike rider was travelling as part of a group of ten foreign-registered motorbikes travelling along the A494 from Dolgellau to Bala. I would urge anyone who saw or may have dashcam footage of either vehicle or the group of motorbikes travelling along the road prior to the collision to contact us.”
