Man charged over serious crash that followed police pursuit

A 33-year-old man has been charged with driving offences after a BMW car crashed in Hull while being pursued by police.

The BMW collided with a Skoda car in Anlaby Road, at around 5.20pm on Friday. Officers had been pursuing the car after it failed to stop in Melton.

The driver of the Skoda suffered serious injuries. Two people in the BMW were also take to hospital.

Liam Robinson, of Queensgate Street, Hull, has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and fraudulent use of a registration mark. He has been remanded in custody to appear at Hull Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Monday, June 12).

In a statement, Humberside Police said: “It is reported that a blue BMW 3 Series was travelling on the A63, where a police pursuit ensued from the junction at Melton after the driver of the vehicle failed to stop when requested by officers. Shortly after, the BMW and a black Skoda Octavia were in collision near to the junction of De La Pole Avenue in Hull.”

Photographs taken at the scene of the crash on Friday show railings and other street furniture flattened by a car that had mounted the pavement. Humberside Police have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, because the collision happened following a pursuit..
