Man dies at scene of Stoke-on-Trent crash as air ambulance called
Paramedics say they did everything they could to save a man who died following a crash. An ambulance was on the scene of the collision in Knypersley Road, Norton[1], within four minutes on Saturday evening (June 17) with the air ambulance touching down a short time later.
Police officers were also on hand to tape off the route[2] from its junction with Drakeford Grove with motorists and pedestrians stopped from going past. But despite the swift response, the driver was confirmed dead at the scene at around 5.30pm.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Knypersley Road near Norton at 5.22pm on Saturday. The first ambulance arrived on scene in four minutes and was backed up by a second ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford.
"On arrival, crews discovered one car had been involved in a collision and the driver, a man, was in a critical condition. Medical staff immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, the man could not be saved and he was confirmed dead at the scene."
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service[4] said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision at 5.27pm following a call from the ambulance service.
"We sent crews from Hanley and Sandyford. They have since left and the matter has been left with the police."
Staffordshire Police have been approached for a statement.
