Man left with life-threatening injuries in Shropshire crash as road to remain closed ‘for some time’
Three people have been hurt in a crash in Shropshire. One of the causalities received life-threatening injuries in the collision between a car and a van on the A5 between Gledrid roundabout and Halton roundabout in Oswestry.[1][2]
The crash happened at around 8.08am this morning (June 29) and drivers were warned by police to find alternative routes as they worked at the scene. They added at 10.47am that the road would be closed "for some time."
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police[3] said: "The A5 between Gledrid roundabout and Halton roundabout is currently closed due to an earlier collision and is likely to remained closed for some time. Please find an alternative route.
"The collision happened around 8.20am this morning near Gledrid roundabout, two people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries." A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service[5] said: "On arrival, crews discovered three men. The first was the driver of the car. He was assessed and had sustained life-threatening injuries. He received advanced trauma care at the scene. "He was conveyed to Royal Stoke Hospital by the Welsh Air Ambulance. The second was the driver of the van. He was assessed and had sustained potentially life-threatening injuries. He received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene. "He was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital by air ambulance for further treatment. The third was a passenger in the car. He had sustained serious injuries that were not life threatening. He received treatment at the scene. "He was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital by land ambulance for further assessment." Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service added: "We're working with @NorthWalesFire at a serious collision involving three casualties on the A5, Gledrid Northbound. "@WMerciaPolice @OFFICIALWMAS are also in attendance. The road is expected to be shut for the next two hours so please avoid the area."References
