Man suffers serious injury as air ambulance lands in M56 lorry crash
An air ambulance has landed on the M56 after a lorry and car crashed, causing the HGV to overturn and catch fire.
Cheshire Police[1] were called to the M56 at around 3pm on Thursday, June 29, following reports of a crash between junctions nine and 10. Once officers arrived at the scene they found a car and lorry had crashed on the road, causing the lorry to overturn and both vehicles to catch fire.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene and got to work immediately putting out the flames. Two casualties were assisted at the scene including a man, the driver of the HGV and a woman who was driving the car.
The man suffered a serious injury to his ankle and was being treated by paramedics at the scene while the woman is not believed to have suffered any serious injuries. The woman was taken to hospital for further checks.
An air ambulance was requested at the scene and landed on the eastbound carriageway. The motorway has been closed in both directions by National Highways, with “severe disruption” on both sides of the carriageway.
The motorway is expected to be closed for “some time” while the clean up operation takes place.
A spokesperson from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The carriageway has been closed westbound and the lorry has been on fire. Police are also in attendance.
