Pedestrian, 39, dies after being hit by lorry on M74

A PEDESTRIAN has died after a collision with a lorry on the motorway.

The 39-year-old was struck by a red Scania HGV at around 11.35pm on the M74 near to Junction 1A on the Polmadie slip road.

Emergency[1] services were called to the road but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for around five hours for investigations.

It was reopened around 5am.

Sergeant Chris Hoggans, Glasgow[2] Road Policing, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died.

“Despite the time of night, the M74 was still busy with traffic and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

“I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area and may have seen what happened.

“I am also appealing for anyone with relevant dash-cam footage to get in touch on 101, quoting incident 5187 of 3 June, 2023.”

It comes as a pensioner died after a crash involving a car[3] on a Glasgow street.

The 75-year-old woman was struck by the white Mercedes-Benz[4] at around 6.50pm on Saturday, June 3, near to the junction of Farmington Gardens and Farmington Avenue, in the Shettleston area of the city.

Emergency services[5] were called but despite their best efforts she was pronounced dead at the scene.
