Person in his 70s suffers ‘life changing’ injuries in serious A405 crash near St Albans

A person suffered life-changing injuries after a serious collision on the A405 at Chiswell Green near St Albans. The crash involving a pedestrian and great Citroen van occurred on Monday (June 26) at around 4.05pm.

Herts Police was called to the scene between the A405 North Orbital Road roundabout and the B4630 Watford Road roundabout/Tippendell Lane. The pedestrian, a man aged in his 70s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries that are believed to be life-changing. Road closures were put in place as the ambulance service, as well as an air ambulance, were called.

A 43-year-old man from Hemel Hempstead was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving, and has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue. Herts Police is now appealing for help.

PC Alison Elderfield, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries are continuing, and we are urging anyone with information to please get in touch. Were you in the area at the time and saw what happened? Additionally, if you have a dash cam fitted, please check it as you may have recorded some crucial footage that may help our investigation.”
