Police statement in full as bomb squad called to Rotherham street
Police have shut off a road in Rotherham[1] today and called in the bomb squad.
South Yorkshire Police[2] put out a statement earlier this morning (Friday, June 23), reporting Treefield Close in Wingfield as cordoned off while they dealt with an incident. Explosive Ordnance Disposal have been at the scene[3] after a warrant was executed.
Properties around the address have been evacuated and people asked to avoid the area. A man, 41, has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.
The full statement from South Yorkshire Police reads: “Detectives and neighbourhood officers and specialists from EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) are currently on scene at Treefield Close in Wingfield following a warrant being executed. A road closure is in place on Treefield Close while services carry out their work.
“Around a dozen properties are being evacuated as a precaution and we ask for you to avoid the area. A 41 year-old man has been arrested in connection and remains in police custody.”
Bomb disposal vans, police officers and cordons have been pictured at the scene on Treefield Close.
