Police target dangerous driving in the Seaton area
Local officers and members of the Devon & Cornwall Police No Excuses team, who target offences on the roads, carried out a joint operation with the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency on Thursday, June 1 and Friday 2.
They focused on the A35 and A3052, which both have a high accident rate, along with Seaton town centre and Harbour Road, where there have been reports of antisocial driving.
Vehicles were stopped for either a routine inspection or after an offence had been spotted by officers in unmarked police vehicles. In one case a group of six bikers overtook a lorry, forcing the driver of the unmarked police vehicle to brake sharply to avoid a collision. One driver was seen using their phone while not wearing a seatbelt, and another was caught speeding in Royal Observer Way and received a warning. Three vehicles were searched for drugs and another for stolen goods.
Eight drivers were reported to court for offences ranging from dangerous driving to having no MOT or not wearing a seatbelt. Three vehicles were prohibited by DVSA until they have taken a further MOT test. Several local car enthusiasts had their vehicles examined and were given advice on appropriate driving.
