Residents call for action following horror crash in Blackburn
In the latest incident in School Lane, wreckage was strewn across the road as parked cars were damaged by another vehicle.
One car looked to be completely written-off and the front side of the vehicle had been smashed beyond recognition.
The incident happened in the early morning hours, just after 1am on Monday, June 12, where a Kia smashed into a parked vehicle at high speed and rammed into another car on the opposite side of the road.
Lancashire Police said the driver was arrested for drug-driving but no one was seriously injured.
A resident who lives close by said: “Over the past two weeks there has been multiple accidents along a short stretch of lane, involving multiple car claims.
“We have asked the police to support with a speed camera deployment without any update.
“In total there has been around eight cases of damages to neighbour’s cars.
“It is not just the car damages but the vast speeding of the motorcyclists as the vehicular traffic uses the lane as an alternative to Grain Road, which has variable speed limits.
“As you can see from the crash, the vehicle shunted a white car into the field and rebounded over the road, so this car incident must have been doing over 100mph to achieve the force needed. Action must been taken.”
Blackburn[1] South East Councillor Tony Humphrys said he had been made aware of the growing concerns from residents and had raised this at a recent meeting with council officials.
He said: “We had a meeting this week at the King Edward Pub with regards to the future plans for the area around M65 Junction 5 and the question of traffic calming measures along School Lane was discussed at length.
“Alongside my fellow councillors I have requested traffic calming measures in the past. In 2019 we did have a police camera van.
“I think more and more people are using this route now and there certainly further measures could be introduced. As with most parts of the borough now speeding is a major issue.
“We have another meeting in September to discuss the points raised and the officers will have to report back.”
A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.16am on June 12 to a report of a road traffic collision in School Lane, Blackburn.
“Officers attended and a Kia car was found to have collided with a stationary vehicle.
“The driver of the Kia and a passenger were both taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving with excess drugs.”
