Trapped pick-up driver rescued after M6 Staffordshire pile-up
A man had to be rescued after a three-vehicle collision on the M6 in Staffordshire. Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway between junctions 11a and 12 after two lorries and a Mitsubishi pick-up truck were involved in a smash this morning (June 29).
The pick-up truck driver had to be cut free using specialist tools just before 6am. After being assessed, he was taken to hospital for further treatment.
A spokesperson from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to the M6 between junctions 11a and 12 northbound just before 6am this morning Thursday, June 29 following reports of a collision. Crews from Brewood and Cannock attended with Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service.
“On arrival, we found two lorries and a Mitsubishi pick-up truck involved in a collision. A man, in his 40s and the driver of the pick-up truck, was rescued by fire crews using extrication tools having been trapped. Shortly after, he was taken to hospital for precautionary checks. Crews left the scene just before 7.30am.”

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We were called to the M6 between junctions 11a and 12 northbound just before 6am this morning following reports of a collision. Officers attended with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service.
“On arrival, we found two lorries and a Mitsubishi pick-up truck involved in a collision. A man, in his 40s and the driver of the pick-up truck, was rescued by fire crews having been trapped. Shortly after, he was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] sent wo ambulances and two paramedic officers to the scene. A spokeswoman said: “Two ambulances and two paramedic officers attended the scene. Upon arrival we found two men who were the drivers of the vehicles. The first man was assessed and had potentially serious injuries.”
