Truck crashes spark heavy congestion on Sydney M5, Hume Motorway

Sydney[1] motorists are being urged to prepare for heavy traffic[2] as congestion remains following two crashes on busy motorways.

Three of four city-bound lanes on the M5 were closed on Wednesday morning after a B-double jack-knifed near Beech Rd about 6am.

The incident also shut the M7 city-bound on-ramp to the M5.

All lanes have since reopened and are cleared; however, motorists are advised to continue to allow for extra travel time.

“Northbound traffic remains heavy, so continue to allow extra travel time,” Live Traffic Sydney said.

Traffic was also chaotic heading southbound on the Hume Motorway approaching Brooks Rd, where a truck rolled about 7.45am.

Three of four lanes were closed while emergency services righted the truck.

The southbound lanes have since been reopened, but drivers are asked to be cautious as emergency services remain on scene.
