Van driver dies after crash on Welsh road

A van driver has died following a crash on a Welsh road. The collision, involving a white transit van, happened on the A472, near Tredomen, South Wales, at around 2.20pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services including the police, fire service, ambulance service and an air ambulance, attended the scene. Police are appealing for witnesses or anybody with dashcam or CCTV footage, to contact them.

A Gwent Police statement said: “We received a report of a road traffic collision on the A472, near Tredomen at around 2.20pm on Tuesday 6 June.

“Officers attended, along with personnel from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Wales Air Ambulance and Welsh Ambulance Service, and the collision involved a van– a white Ford Transit.

“The driver, a 56-year-old man from Merthyr Tydfil, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. He can be named as Darren Medd; his next of kin are aware and are receiving support from specialist officers.

“Any motorists who were travelling on the A472, near Tredomen between 2.10pm and 2.20pm on Tuesday 6 June, or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage is asked to contact us.”
