Woman cut free from car after crash with lorry on M61 near Chorley
A woman had to be freed from a car by emergency services after a crash with a lorry on the M61[1].
Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the southbound carriageway between junction eight for Chorley[2] and junction six for Aspell. National Highways officers also attended the scene following a 999 call at 2.50am today (June 8).
All traffic was stopped between the two junctions for more than one hour while one lane on the northbound carriageway was also shut. Lancashire[3] Constabulary said a woman was ‘trapped inside the car’ and had to be ‘removed’.
She suffered ‘minor injuries’ and went to Royal Preston[4] Hospital for treatment. The road reopened shortly after 4.30am.
National Highways North West tweeted at 3.22am: “Traffic is currently stopped on the #M61 southbound between J8 #Chorley and J6 #Aspull due to a multi vehicle collision. Emergency services are in attendance.. Delays are beginning to build on approach to the incident.”
A further tweet at 4.36am: “All lanes are now OPEN on the #M61 southbound between J8 #Chorley and J6 #Aspull following a multi vehicle collision. Delays are clearing well. Thank you for your patience.
A police spokesperson told LancsLive: “We attended around 2.50am and found a collision had occurred between a lorry and a car. It looks like a woman was trapped inside the car so the southbound carriageway was closed for about an hour while she was removed.
“One lane northbound was also closed. The woman in the car suffered minor injuries and went to RPH.”
