A180 crash leaves driver fighting for life after two lorries collide

A driver suffered “life-threatening” injuries after two lorries crashed on the A180, police said today.

Emergency services were called to the crash[1] on a stretch of road between Barnetby Top and Immingham yesterday evening (Thursday). It is believed that a lorry broke down in a live lane and was then hit by a second lorry.

The driver of the stationary lorry was taken to hospital with “serious injuries which are thought to be life threatening at this time”. Police said the driver of the second lorry was also taken to hospital, though it is thought that his injuries are not serious.

The collision happened on the eastbound carriageway at around 4.50pm. The road was closed until 9am this morning (Friday).

Some motorists[3] caught up in the road closure queued for hours. Witnesses reported seeing as many as “seven fire engines, six police cars and four ambulances”. It is believed that the air ambulance was also called.

The road was closed for around 16 hours
