Three people were "transported" to hospital after a serious crash on the A1(M) near Welwyn Garden City. The incident occurred on the northbound carriageway of the A1(M) near Welwyn Garden City[1] on Monday afternoon (July 24).

The incident led the emergency services to rush to the scene, including the East of England Ambulance Service. Three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance officer vehicle, and a Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were all in attendance as well as the police.

The crash led to severe delays for Hertfordshire commuters on the northbound carriageway of the A1(M)[2] as officers closed the motorway temporarily. Many residents took to social media to reveal that they waited several hours to pass the accident.

Hatfield[3] resident Amanda Lily was one of hundreds on the motorway when the incident occurred. She said: "We were there just after it happened. Van on our side of the road, somehow ended up on the other side of the motorway on its side. I hope all involved are OK."

The East of England Ambulance Service revealed that three people were rushed to Lister Hospital in Stevenage following the crash. They have been taken for "further assessment and care" and their health state is currently unknown.

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "Following reports of a road traffic collision on the northbound A1(M) near Welwyn Garden City yesterday afternoon, we sent three ambulances, one rapid response vehicle, and ambulance officer vehicle and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.
