A35 to stay closed for hours after serious car and lorry crash

The A35 is set to stay closed for several hours following a collision between a car and a lorry. The Devon Air Ambulance, as well as all three emergency services, were all sent to the scene near Axminster on Thursday afternoon.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called at around 1:40pm today following reports of a road traffic collision on the A35, Kilmington, Axminster between a car and a lorry. Road closures are in place to allow emergency services to attend and to allow the air ambulance to land.

Four hours later, the A35 – the main road between Devon and Dorset – remains closed. The closures are between the A375 (near Honiton) and A358 (near Axminster).

Devon and Cornwall Police are on scene carrying out investigation works for the collision, and have confirmed that the road will remain closed for several hours as a result. National Highways service providers are also in attendance providing assistance with traffic management.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, South West Ambulance Service and Devon Air Ambulance all attended earlier in the day but have since left the scene.

National Highways said: “ The A35 in Devon is closed in both directions between the A375 (near Honiton) and A358 (near Axminster) following a collision involving a car and lorry. Investigations are underway and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours. Traffic is being diverted via local routes.”

Devon and Cornwall Police have been contacted for any further information.
