Bainbridge Township police to hold an informative citizens academy: Valley Views
CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio -- You have seen the popular crime shows, but if you want to see how police work is done in real life, the Bainbridge Township citizen’s academy starts 7-9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 and meets on six consecutive weeks through Oct. 24. It will be held at the police station, 8353 Bainbridge Rd.
The classes give insight into the different aspects of police work, including day to day activities such as traffic enforcement, safety and training, patrol techniques, firearm safety and training and traffic accident investigation. They also cover more complex investigations such as crime scene investigation, evidence collection and processing, K-9 use, use of truth verification, legal reviews and more. You will also get a tour of the police station, demonstrations and the opportunity to ride along with a uniformed patrol officer.
The classes provide an opportunity to learn more about police work in your community. It will not give you special powers or authority, nor will it turn you into a police officer.
Your teachers include members of your local police force as well as some guest speakers.
Enrollment preference will be given to residents and business owners of Bainbridge Township. Participants must submit an application which could include a criminal background check, which may disqualify some applicants who have felony and some misdemeanor convictions.
