Liz Mitchell, one of the original singers from 1970s band Boney M, was reportedly taken to hospital after crashing her car into a ditch. It was reported by The Sun[2] that the 71 year old Jamaican-British singer was on the way to visit her brother in prison in Cambridgeshire when the accident happened last week. She is believed to be recovering at home following the incident.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire police said they were called to reports of a collision at 11.37am on 13 July on the A47 at Thorney Toll. They stated: "One vehicle was involved and was found to be in a ditch. The driver, female, was initially trapped in the vehicle but was extracted and a male passenger managed to get out. Officers and paramedics attended the scene. No serious injuries were reported."

The Rivers Of Babylon singer is believed to have been going to see her brother Khalid Rashad at Whitemoor Prison. He ordered the murder of Syrian-born imam Abdul Hadi Arwani, 48, and was found guilty in January 2016.

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said a woman was taken to Peterborough City Hospital for further care. A source told The Sun that Liz was 'shaken' by the accident, saying: "Liz was shaken after the smash, but she fortunately escaped serious injury. That section of A47 has a reputation for being dangerous and it could have been much worse."

Liz's website says that she is "the most famous member of disco band Boney M." Boney M were created by German record producer Frank Farian, who was also the group's main songwriter. Formed in 1976, they became popular for hits including Daddy Cool, Ma Baker, Rasputin, Mary's Boy Child and Rivers Of Babylon.

Rivers Of Babylon was – at the time – the second highest-selling single of all time in the UK and remained at No1 for five weeks.
