Boy remains in serious condition after crash near Somerset border

A boy who was airlifted to hospital following a crash near the Somerset border[1] remains in a serious condition, police have said. The child, 11, was seriously injured in the collision, which involved an Audi A5 and a concrete mixer lorry in Bradford Road, Sherborne, on Monday afternoon (July 24).

One man, his 50s, was arrested in the wake of the incident. He has been released under investigation, Dorset Police have said.

Emergency services were called to Bradford Road, near the Oxley Sports Centre[2], at around 12.30pm on Monday. The road was closed through the afternoon, with a closure on the A30 extending to the roundabout in Yeovil affecting traffic between Dorset and Somerset.

An 11-year-old boy remains in a serious condition this morning (July 25) after being airlifted to hospital. A second person was also taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be serious.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the attended the collision and rescued one person who was trapped in the car. A statement said: “We were called to Bradford Road, Sherborne at 12.52pm today for a two-vehicle road traffic collision.

“Three crews attended, from Sherborne, Yeovil and Wincanton, together with a rescue unit from Yeovil. Hydraulic rescue equipment and small tools were used to free one casualty from a car.”

Police Sergeant Dave Cotterill, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or the moments leading up to it, to please get in touch if they have not already spoken to police.

“Also, I would like to hear from any motorists who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage. The road remains closed at this time while we carry out a thorough examination of the scene and I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding at this time.”
