Boy Scout Dies in Boating Accident on NH Lake

🔴 The first report came in around 2:20 p.m. Friday afternoon

🔴 The victim was a Boy Scout at one of two camps in Gilmanton

A Boy Scout drowned in Manning Lake Friday afternoon in a boating accident near a camp in Gilmanton.

A New Hampshire Fish and Game dive team along with Gilmanton Police and Fire and New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol responded to the lake, according to State Police. A spokeswoman did not disclose details about the accident and said it remained under investigation. The victim is from out of state.

Gilmanton Fire Department Capt. John Cunningham told the Union Leader[1] his department the first report of an accident came in around 2:20 p.m.

The Daniel Webster Council said it was "heartbroken" to confirm the fatality.

"We offer our deepest condolences to the Scout's family and ask everyone to please join in keeping this young man and his loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," the Daniel Webster Council wrote on their Facebook page.[2]

The Council's Griswold Scout Reservation is located near Gilmanton Iron Works and includes two summer camps, Hidden Valley Scout Camp and Camp Bell.
