Car towing caravan overturns on M5 forcing motorway closure
A car towing a caravan overturned on the M5 in Gloucestershire this morning (Wednesday, July 26) causing traffic chaos. Emergency services were called to the crash scene between junction 9 for Tewkesbury and junction 10 for Cheltenham at around 9.45am.
Gloucestershire police[1] said nobody is believed to have been seriously injured in the collision. The road was closed southbound for around 10 minutes from 8.45am with one lane remaining closed as of 10am.
Queues stretched back four miles following the collision. Congestion[2] also spread to the A38 through Tewkesbury as drivers sought to avoid the queues.
Gloucestershire police said: "Emergency services were called to reports of an overturned vehicle on the M5 at around 7.45am this morning, Wednesday 26 July. One car towing a caravan had overturned, partially blocking lane one, between Junction 9 and Junction 10 southbound.
"The lane currently remains closed. Nobody is believed to be seriously injured."
