Crash leaves dairy van driver injured and milk splattered across West Bromwich road
Milk was left splattered across a busy road after a crash involving a dairy van and a BMW as motorists were warned to avoid the area. The driver of the van was taken to hospital following the smash, which happened at the junction of Dudley[1] Street and Phoenix Street in West Bromwich.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 6.14am on Thursday, July 13. Medics treated the van driver at the scene before he was taken to Sandwell Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the car was not injured.
A photograph shared on social media showed the road was blocked in the aftermath of the collision. An accompanying post advised people to “avoid” the junction, where several crates of milk could be seen in the middle of the road.
POLL: Do you feel safe on the roads?[3]
A West Midlands Ambulance Service[4] spokesman said: “We were called at 6.14am to a road traffic collision involving a car and a van in West Bromwich. One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.
“Upon arrival we found a man who was the driver of the van. He was assessed and had sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
“He received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to Sandwell Hospital for further assessment. The driver of the car did not require treatment.”
National Express West Midlands tweeted just after 7am to say service 74 was using Black Country New Road in both directions due to the incident. However at 9.48am it said the incident had cleared and buses were using the normal route, adding: “Apologies for any disruption to your journey.”
