Crash near Birmingham Airport live amid 999 response close to cargo area
A man has sadly died after a collision happened near Birmingham Airport[1] this afternoon, July 10. It’s understood the incident was close to the travel hub’s cargo area.
National Express West Midlands warned bus passengers of a service disruption. A tweet said a problem was blocking Centro Way.
A tweet read: “Service Disruption. A collision is currently blocking Centro Way near the airport cargo area. Services X1 and X12 are diverting via A45 Coventry Road to and from Birmingham Airport. Apologies for any disruption to your journey.”
An Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of an RTC on Falcon Way near Birmingham Airport[3] at 1pm and sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance to the scene.
“On arrival, crews discovered a car and a bus had been involved in a collision and the driver of the car, a man, was in a critical condition receiving basic life support from police colleagues. Ambulance crews immediately took over and began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, it became clear that the man could not be saved and he was confirmed dead at the scene.
“A second patient, a woman, was assessed by medics but did not wish to go to hospital so was given self-care advice and discharged at the scene.”
West Midlands Fire Service added: “At 1.07pm on Monday, July 10, we responded to a collision on Centro Way near Car Park 7 at Birmingham Airport.
“Three fire engines and a 4×4 brigade response vehicle crewed by 15 firefighters attended. They were supported by specialist technical rescue personnel.
“The incident involved a collision between a car and a bus. We left the scene at 4.05pm.”
