Cumbria Constabulary records show 43 caravans stolen in five years

The data from the request, submitted by B Busby to Cumbria Constabulary on March 30, shows the total number of thefts of caravans recorded between March 2018 and March 2023.

Campervans and motorhomes have not been included in the data search.

2021 was the year in which the highest number of thefts were recorded, with reported incidents accounting for 15 thefts across the county, of which five occurred in August. [1]

In 2021, the relative of a victim of a caravan theft posted on social media:[2] “My grandparents caravan has been stolen… from Kingstown, from their driveway… They have cut the security post out, cut off all the wheel locks and have cut through all the cables charging the batteries!

“The track marks on the grass looks like it’s been loaded onto a flatbed or loader,” they said.

The data also revealed there were 75 theft of items from inside a caravan.

2018 shows the highest number of incidents, with 18 items stolen.

In February this year, police were appealing for witnesses after a caravan, a white Swift Challenger 580 with a burgundy stripe, was stolen from a property on the A6071 between Longtown and Gretna.[3]
