The silver Hyundai SUV was spotted on Highway 99 north of 16th Avenue when the driver went off the road and the vehicle caught fire.

The only occupant got out of the SUV and was taken into custody. Surrey RCMP Staff Sgt. Tyner Gillies said there was a brief confrontation before officers used a Taser to make the arrest.

The man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while Surrey Fire Service put out the vehicle fire.

Police have since confirmed the SUV clipped another vehicle, causing minor damage, but no injuries were reported.

After the suspect was medically cleared, he was taken back to the border and handed over to American police.
