Drivers accused of racing after serious four-vehicle crash near Gloucester McDonald’s

Two men have been arrested following a serious four-vehicle crash in Gloucester[1] last night (July 27). Gloucestershire Police were called to the scene on the A38 Eastern Avenue, near to McDonald's, at around 8.30pm.

The collision involved a black Audi A5, BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, Ford Fiesta Zetec and an Audi A6. One of the drivers was taken to hospital with minor injuries while a dog also bolted from one of the cars before being found safely nearby.

Police say a 23-year-old man from Gloucester[2] was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving without insurance, racing on a public highway and driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man from Gloucester was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, racing on a public highway and driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

He was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer after it was alleged he punched and spat at an officer. They both remain in police custody this morning (July 28).

Investigating officers are now appealing to the public for information. They are urging anyone who saw the crash or who has relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Gloucestershire Police[4] said: "Investigating officers are appealing for dashcam footage of the vehicles involved prior to the collision. Police are also keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident and has not already spoken to officers."

They added: "Anyone who has dashcam footage or information is asked to provide information to police online by completing the following form[5] and quoting incident 453 of 27 July."

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 20:33hrs on Thursday 27 July to an incident in Gloucester. We sent two double-crewed land ambulances and an operations officer and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Gloucester Royal Hospital.”
