Drivers face major delays as M8 in Glasgow closed in both directions over ‘police incident’

DRIVERS are facing major delays after a ‘police incident’ closed a stretch of the M8 in both directions.

Huge tailbacks were reported on the eastbound section of the busy motorway[1] after junction 12 in Glasgow[2].

Pictures sent to the Scottish Sun show lines of cars in standstill traffic, just after 7.30pm.

Emergency services are on scene, with Police Scotland confirming they are dealing with a concern for a person.

A helicopter has been spotted circling overhead.

A driver said: “Everyone has been diverted off the motorway and they’re travelling back up the eastbound carriageway to clear the traffic.

“A helicopter was out flying over us,and people have even been getting out of their cars and trying to walk up the motorway.

“We’ve been stuck here for what seems like ages.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The emergency services are dealing with a concern for person incident in the vicinity of the M8 at Gartcraig Road in Glasgow – between junctions 11 and 12.

“The motorway is currently closed to traffic in both directions, and motorists should avoid the area.”
