Drivers taken to hospital after collision between dump truck and car in Slate Belt

The driver of a landscaping dump truck that rolled over following a collision Saturday afternoon had to be freed from the wreckage, authorities said.

Both the male driver of the truck and the female driver of a sedan that was involved were taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment, according to police.

It was reported shortly before 1:30 p.m. at Pen Argyl and Mill roads in Plainfield Township[1].

Slate Belt Regional police were continuing to investigate the crash, but cited witnesses who said the sedan driver either ran a stop sign or stopped in the middle of Pen Argyl Road while attempting to cross on Mill Road, Officer William Wales said.

Nearby residents ran out and stayed with the drivers until first responders got there, said Wales, who is the department’s collision investigator.

The Plainfield Township Volunteer Fire Co. freed the truck driver who was unable to get out on his own, Wales said; responders had put a medical helicopter on standby before canceling the request. Wind Gap EMS also responded, police said.

The bed of the mid-size dump truck was empty at the time of the crash, police said.

Pen Argyl Road was closed for a period after the crash but was back open as of about 4 p.m.
