Dumbarton crime: Lorry drivers reported for commercial offences

The three HGV drivers were pulled over by Dumbarton Road Police at the Midross section of the A82 on Thursday.

Officers checked for tachograph infringements as part of Commercial Vehicle Week, with the aim of combating professional drivers spending too long on the road.

A tachograph is used to monitor truck driver’s speed, driving time and distance travelled.

To avoid committing tachograph offences, drivers must not be on the road more than:

  • Nine hours in one day (or ten hours twice a week)
  • 56 hours in one week
  • 90 hours in two consecutive weeks

There are also rules around rest periods, including taking a 45-minute break every four and a half hours of driving.

Police said: “We will continue to check Tachographs regularly.”
