Live updates as A14 closed after crash in Northamptonshire involving two lorries near Cambs border

A major A-road is closed following a crash on the Cambridgeshire border with Northamptonshire today (Tuesday, July 11). The eastbound carriageway of the A14 is shut between Junction 13 (Thrapston) and Junction 16 (Kimbolton).

The closure was first reported at around 1am and around four miles of queues on approach to it are affected. National Highways has described the crash as ‘serious’ and that two lorries are involved.

Inrix, the traffic[1] data company, said: “A14 Eastbound closed, queueing traffic for four miles due to accident from J13 A45 (Thrapston) to J16 B660 Fox Road (Catworth / Kimbolton). Congestion to J11 Finedon. Just before 01:00 this morning, heading towards Cambridge.”

A National Highways spokesperson said: “Northamptonshire Police are leading a multi agency response to a serious collision involving two HGV’s which occurred at approximately 00:57 this morning. Police collision investigations are taking place at the scene.

“Due to the nature of the incident we are currently unable to provide an estimated reopening time however, the carriageway is expected to remain closed for a number of hours. Traffic is being diverted via local routes.”
